What is my timber worth?
On the most basic level, your trees will be priced by their species, size, and quality. Other factors come into play too, though. One of those factors is harvest scale, meaning how many trees we’re harvesting in a given area. Additionally, state and local harvesting laws can dictate the methods we use, further affecting pricing.
Do you log in the winter?
Yes, we harvest timber year-round. Common obstacles in accessing woodlands are farmcrops and low wetlands, so it's often easier to log during the winter.
Will harvesting my woods affect the wildlife there?
A properly managed timber harvest can increase acorn production and improve habitat conditions in your woodland, based on your timber and wildlife management objectives.
Will Cole Forest Products buy a single tree?
Generally, our answer to this question is no, simply because the expenses involved with tree harvesting are too great for one tree. However, we have made exceptions if we’re harvesting other trees nearby.
I tapped my maple trees. Do they still have value?
Your trees lose value the moment you tap them; however, that doesn’t mean that a tapped tree is valueless. After a tap is removed, the hole will become covered up over time. A scar will be left above and below the tap hole. This scarring will reduce the value of your tree, but that doesn’t mean your tree can’t be harvested.
We had a severe storm and now we have a lot of downed trees. Do you buy downed trees?
It depends. Trees that have been uprooted typically hold greater value than trees that have cracked or broken in half. We recommend having one of our buyers inspect the damage to see what your options are.
Will the Emerald Ash Borer affect the value of my trees?
Infested ash trees still have some value, as long as the infestation isn’t too pervasive. If any of your ash trees show signs of infestation, we recommend removing all of your ash trees, to prevent widespread infestation.
Does Cole Forest Products select cut or clear cut?
We do both types of cuttings. We'll work with the landowner to determine which option is best for his or her woodland.
